New bike racks in Powell River

The city of Powell River has some new artwork around town in the form of bike racks.

The Powell River Bike Rack Project is a way to promote physical well-being for youth in the region. The racks were designed by local kids as part of the Youth Active Transportation Project.

The project is a joint effort between Vancouver Coastal Health, the Powell River Cycling Association, School District 47, the City of Powell River, and the PR Division of Family Practice.

Spokesperson Chris Morwood says the project is also a great way to promote the city’s infrastructure.

Morwood says he’s very excited to see where this takes the city of Powell River going forward.

Kids in the community designed the bike racks – which were then built by artist and welder Colin McRae before being placed at different locations around Powell River.
