Powell River’s Chief Librarian Retiring

Powell River’s Chief Librarian is retiring.

After a successful transition to the library’s new facility, Terry Noreault has announced that he will be stepping down from his position.

Assistant Chief Librarian Rebecca Burbank will be taking over.

Noreault became the interim chief in October 2014. One of his first duties was running the referendum to approve the borrowing of $3.5-million to build the new Powell River facility. He says that even with the growing popularity of E-readers and online books, libraries remain relevant.

He notes that since the new building opened, more than 1,000 new library cards have been issued to Powell River residents.

Burbank comes in as a fourth generation librarian and says she’s excited to take on the new role.
