Food Bank fundraising total comes out to over $58,000

POWELL RIVER, B.C.- It was an amazing month for the Powell River Action Food Bank.

Over the last four weeks, more than $58,000 was raised to help local families in need.

Fundraising efforts included the stuff a trailer campaign, which was a partnership between the food bank, City Transfer, Safeway and 95.7 Coast FM.

Spokesperson Savannah Dee said that finished up right before Christmas, but donations kept on coming in.

“My heart is warmed by the community helping out the (less fortunate) people coming to the food bank,” she said.

“It feeds them all year, the money we get at Christmas, and we are truly blessed by everybody in the community.”

She added that people have also donated blankets, socks and toys.

The total funds include all the food that was donated, cash, cheques and gift cards.

Dee said the food bank is also getting some extra attention from the Powell River Chamber of Commerce’s annual Business Awards.

“The Chamber of Commerce, and people in the community, have nominated the food bank for the best Non-Profit of the Year Award.”

The awards ceremony will take place in February.
