Council approves new condo developments

POWELL RIVER, B.C.- Council has approved two new multi-family condo developments at its last meeting of 2017.

One of the developments involves a property at Joyce Avenue and Tofino Street.

It is one of three properties linked to the development of Pacific Point, a development in the Grief Point neighbourhood. The subject location is immediately north of the Pacific Point Market and Suites, which were completed a few years ago.

Once the Pacific Point project is completed, the land will house a stratified condo building, rental residential units, multiple tourist accommodation suites, a boutique grocery store and various retail commercial services.

The Pacific Point Condominiums will offer 23 residential units on the upper three floors.

The second development approved by council, Abalone Development, will offer 16 units. At its December 21st meeting, council approved the development permit for the project.

That development will be located at Fernwood Avenue and Duncan Street.

Developers previously put forward a permit application in 2008. At that time, the intention was to build a 12-unit complex within two buildings.

That permit was approved by council in June 2008. Two years later, a five-year extension to the development permit was granted. A total of 22 parking spaces will be provided at the complex.
