Council approves Age-friendly Communities grant application

POWELL RIVER, B.C.- Activities and supports for seniors are planned to be improved in the region.

At its December 21st meeting, Powell River council voted to approve the grant application to the Union of BC Municipalities (UBCM) and 2018 Age-friendly BC Communities Grant Program Stream 2.

The grant is for $15,000 and will help provide support for proposed seniors activities and overall grant management.

The city plans to host engagement meetings to find residents that will make up a Seniors Action Table.

If the funding is received, the Seniors Action Table will work with city staff to plan for the next year, and come up with potential projects for seniors.

Age-friendly Communities grants have been offered since 2009. More than 144 local governments have completed projects or have been approved for funding through the program.
