Police reminding drivers to lock their car doors

POWELL RIVER, B.C.- Local police are investigating the theft of a vehicle.

Constable Ron Palmquist said they received the report on January 29th. An unlocked Chevrolet Tracker was taken from the 4200 block of Marine Avenue.

The vehicle was described as having signs on it that read, “Wild Edge Wilderness Education”. The signs were orange, according to Palmquist.

He said during the investigation, the vehicle was found, but police are still trying to find the person responsible for the theft.

Mounties are also continuing to stress the importance of locking vehicles when they are left unattended.

On January 22nd, the RCMP received a report of a theft from an unlocked Chevrolet Trax, parked on the 4100 block of Manson Avenue.

Items in the vehicle were moved around and loose change was stolen. The following day, police were alerted of another case.

An unlocked Dodge Ram 2500 and unlocked Suzuki Sidekick were rummaged through. Change was stolen, as well as a BC Ferries Experience Card.

Between January 22nd and January 29th, the Powell River RCMP responded to 98 calls for service, including two impaired driving calls, three assaults, and two cases of mischief.
