Oakman named interim CFO at City of Powell River

POWELL RIVER, B.C.- Kathleen Day has retired as the Chief Financial Officer for the city of Powell River, and Debra Oakman has stepped into the role, on an interim basis.

Oakman is a former Chief Administrative Office (CAO), GM of Corporate Services and Manager of Financial Services on Vancouver Island.

She will complete the city’s budgetary process for 2018.

“My role as an interim CFO, based on the Chief Administrative Officer’s priorities, will be getting a five-year (2018-2022) financial plan through council and approved in a timely manner,” Oakman said, in a release.

“I’m just ensuring the Finance and IT department staff has the leadership they need during this interim period. I do have to say the city is very fortunate with the staff it has here. They are a great team and work hard to ensure the city’s financial obligations and technology needs are met.”

Oakman attended Powell River’s January Finance Committee meeting, and received direction from the committee.

“I will be working on those particular items to get information back to them, answer their questions and move the financial plan forward,” she said.

Oakman will also be working with CAO Mac Fraser to find a permanent CFO for the city as soon as possible. Between 1994 and 2017, she served in a variety of roles with the Comox Valley Regional District on Vancouver Island.
