POWELL RIVER, B.C- Powell River’s Marathon Shuffle is celebrating it’s 25th birthday this year.
With the banner year, the Powell River Parks and Wilderness Society, known as PAWS, have decided to host the full shuffle, while the Tla’amin Nation hosts the “family-friendly” half shuffle in a new route, from Haywire Bay to the Shinglemill.
The half-shuffle will take place on Saturday April 28, while the full shuffle will be held the following day on it’s original route from Malaspina Road to the Shinglemill.
The change was made in order to cut down on trail congestion.
According to Eagle Walz, the president of PAWS, the “shuffle” description comes from the length of the route, and how participants end up walking towards the end.
Around 600 people have signed up for the event this year from around B.C.
The event is completely free, but donations are appreciated by PAWS and the Tla’amin 2021 Tribal Canoe Journeys Group.
