RCMP searching for missing Powell River boater

POWELL RIVER, B.C. – Mounties in Powell River are searching for a missing 48-year-old man from the region.

On Saturday, May 12, the detachment was alerted of a pleasure craft incident that had happened at the head of Powell Lake.

According to a release from Constable Ron Palmquist, a vessel had capsized with two occupants on board.

One of the occupants was able to swim to the nearby shoreline, where he was able to make a distress call for assistance.

Powell River RCMP responded and activated Search and Rescue. RCMP Air Services was also used during the search.

The search for the Powell River man is ongoing, and includes assistance from the RCMP West Coast Marine Section, and the Island District RCMP Dive Team.
