POWELL RIVER, B.C. – Powell River’s new council held its first meeting earlier this month at the Powell River Recreation Complex.

During the November 6th meeting, mayor Dave Formosa was sworn in for his third term in office after serving one term previously as a city councillor.

Maggie Hathaway and Jim Palm were sworn in for their fourth terms as councillors, while CaroleAnn Leishman and Rob Southcott were sworn in for their second terms.

Cindy Elliott and George Doubt are serving their first terms on council.

The ceremony featured a blessing from Dr. Elsie Paul from the Tla’amin Nation, plus the inaugural address from Formosa.

The mayor then announced councillors Leishman and Doubt as City Directors to the qathet Regional District Board, and councillors Palm and Southcott as Alternates.

Formosa also assigned the portfolios and appointment of community liaisons.

Council will resume its regular sittings with the Committee of the Whole meeting at 3:30 p.m. today, November 13th, and City Council meeting at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 15th, 2018.
