The following stories have been culled from the crime blog of the week released by the Powell River RCMP.
On September 28th, at approximately 1:45 AM, the Powell River RCMP conducted a traffic stop with a blue Ford Contour on Thunder Bay Street near Cariboo Avenue.
Upon speaking to the driver, the RCMP officer observed what was believed to be drugs in plain view. The driver was arrested and the drugs were confirmed to be cocaine.
The driver is now facing the criminal code charge of possession of a controlled drug or substance.
Between September 30th and October 1st, a Grey Honda Civic was broken into while parked near 7050 Glacier Street. Entry was gained by forcing the side window down. Luckily, the owner did not have anything of value inside the vehicle and nothing was taken.
Between Thursday October 1st and Friday the 2nd two bus stops along Joyce Avenue were vandalized. Both bus stops had graffiti etched into the glass. One occurred at the bus stop at Joyce and Kiwanis Street and the second occurred in the 4200 block of Joyce Avenue.
No suspect(s) have been identified to date.
On October 4th at 11:00 AM, a Motorcycle collided with a deer on Hwy 101 near Mckenzie Ave.
It was reported that two deer ran across the street directly in front of the motorcycle which was traveling southbound. The driver was able to miss the first deer but struck the second. The driver of the motorcycle sustained a broken arm and various other minor injuries.
