You may have seen the Powell River RCMP in the Larry Guthro Park area earlier this morning.
They were called in on a “suspicious occurrence”.
Officers showed up to the scene and the area was roped off, but it’s since been determined to have been a hoax. The area has been reopened.
Police say there is no risk to public safety in the area.
This incident comes days after the discovery of human remains in the Townsite area of Powell River. RCMP, the BC Coroners Service and the Vancouver Island Integrated Major Crime Unit continue their investigation on that case.
