POWELL RIVER, B.C. – Police in Powell River fined a driver who was caught with marijuana in his vehicle.
Constable Chris Bakker said the incident occurred on Dec. 8th at around 1:40 a.m. Police were conducting patrols on Padgett Road when they spotted a vehicle on the side of the road.
Bakker said the police approached the vehicle and spoke with a 43 year old driver. When talking to the male driver, they noticed a bag of marijuana in the center console.
The driver received a $230 ticket for driving a car with cannabis, which is a violation of the Cannabis Control and Licensing Act.
IMPAIRED DRIVING
On Dec. 7th, Bakker said the RCMP stopped a van that was “driving erratically” on Manson Avenue. The 35 year old driver was stopped by police and admitted to being under the influence of alcohol. The driver was issued a 90-day driving suspension and his van was impounded for 30 days.
BREAK AND ENTER
On Dec. 11th, at around 2:14 a.m., Bakker said police responded to a report of a break and enter at the Wharfingers office on Wharf Street.
Someone had entered the washroom and broke into the shower change box. No money was taken, according to Bakker, but damage was done to the lock on the change box.
BICYCLE THEFT
On Dec. 8th, Bakker said a bike was stolen from the 3800 block of Joyce Avenue. Police received that report at around 11:15 a.m.
Bakker said the bike was taken sometime the previous night. It’s described as a silver adult-sized Norco Storm 3 with black writing on the body.

Between Dec. 6th and 12th, the local detachment responded to 69 calls for service. Some of these included five thefts, two assaults, one case of impaired driving and one case of break and enter.
