Stuff the Trailer helps to generate $67,000 for Powell River Food Bank

POWELL RIVER, B.C. – Kind-hearted Powell River residents helped stuff the trailer over the Christmas season.

The numbers are in, and the third annual Stuff the Trailer campaign helped to raise $67,000 for the Powell River Action Centre Food Bank last month.

During the campaign, 95.7 Coast FM teamed with City Transfer and Safeway in support of the cause.

The goal was to set up a City Transfer trailer with as many donations as possible for the local food bank.

Over the past 26 months, the campaign generated more than $150,000.

Powell River Action Center Food Bank manager Savanna Dee said the campaign “immensely helped” the food bank, with more donations coming in after the station’s campaign wrapped up.

“It’s food that was donated through the Safeway and other stores, it’s gift cards, cheques, cash… and 100 percent of that is all used for food at the food bank,” she noted.

Dee said if it wasn’t for the generosity of the public, there would be a lot of hungry people in the community.

“We get new people who come all the time, and other people who don’t come anymore because their life has changed,” she said. “It could be people whose houses burn down, or with your EI cheque, something is messed up and you just can’t make it. And we have a lot of pensioners and people on disability who just can’t make it because the rents are so high.”
