Kings playing Island Vipers floor hockey team in Special Olympics fundraiser

POWELL RIVER, B.C. – The Island Vipers will be in for a thrill on Feb. 10.

The Powell River-based Special Olympics floor hockey team will be taking on the Powell River Kings in a fundraising game at Brooks Secondary.

Game time is 1:00 p.m.

Admission at the door is by donation, with all proceeds going to the local Special Olympics program.

Kings head coach and general manager Tyler Kuntz said he and his players are looking forward to the game.

“This is the first time I’ve been involved in it,” Kuntz said. “I know when I was on other teams, I’ve been involved in the same kind of thing in the past. It’s a great experience for everybody. It’s fun, it’s very humbling for the players, and it’s always good to give back.”

Kuntz gave “huge credit” to the team’s director of business operations Nadine Porchetta for helping to set the event up.

“She does all the community stuff and does a great job,” Kuntz said.

The Vipers are gearing up for the provincials, taking place Feb. 21 to 24 in Vernon.
