Women in Politics

More than 68% of eligible voters cast their ballots on Monday night, and the Liberals earned the majority of the seats. But one thing that hasn’t changed is there is still only 26% female representation in the House of Commons.

The province of BC alone has 12 female MPs, which is a 5% drop from last election.

And even though it’s increased by 1% across the nation, this still isn’t enough, according to Equal Voice BC Chair Carolyn Jack.

Jack says the projected changes will happen in almost the 22nd century, which she claims is way too far away. But Prime Minister-designate Justin Trudeau has promised to have an equal number of men and women in his ministry.
