Schools open in Powell River, despite snowfall warning

POWELL RIVER, B.C- Schools are open in Powell River today.

While a snowfall warning has been issued for the Sunshine Coast from Gibsons to Powell River, all schools are open and buses are running, according to School District 47.

Buses may run late, depending on the highway conditions, and may not be able to make pickups on side roads. Parents are being asked to not leave their children unattended at bus stops.

A long period of snowfall with total amounts of 10 to 15 cm is expected, starting this afternoon and running into Tuesday morning.

“This second disturbance will spread snow to virtually the entire South Coast with heaviest amounts falling tonight,” said Enviroment Canada.

“Total snowfall amounts will vary across the region with 10 to 15 cm falling in most areas with somewhat higher amounts possible on Vancouver Island.”
