Tribunal rules that Ottawa discriminated against First Nations children

The First Nations Education Steering Committee is welcoming a ruling on support for First Nation’s on-reserve children.

The Canadian Human Rights Tribunal has ruled the federal government has discriminated against First Nations children, with First Nations children receive 34% less funding from the federal government than what is provided elsewhere in Canada.

Education Steering Committee President Tyrone McNeill says having good supports and resources when kids are young sets them up for success when they enter the school system.

The Tribunal has ordered the federal government to undertake reforms to ensure children on reserve receive the same supports as children across the country.
