Residents are being reminded to be extra bear-aware at this time of year.
Conservation Officer Steve Petrovic says bears are starting to become more active.
He says garbage should only be put out on garbage day.
He notes that if families are recycling, they should wash out the containers and food items should be put out when there’s going to be a quick pickup so bears aren’t baited by the smells.
Petrovic says that if you encounter a bear in your yard or in your neighborhood, stay indoors and call the Conservation Officer call centre.
