If you like to harvest shellfish, DFO is reminding you of the importance of checking for area closures.
There are currently several areas closed on the BC coast, and several more have species-specific closures.
Elysha Gordon with DFO says as the ocean temperatures warm up for the summer, it’s not uncommon to see red tide and blooms of organisms that can be harmful to people.
Gordon says if you are purchasing shellfish, make sure it is from a trusted retailer who can confirm they were harvested from an open area.
