BBQ safety tips

BBQ season is here and fire departments would like to remind the public about BBQ safety.

Fire Chief Ian Baikie, with the Campbell River department, says BBQs that have been stored all winter should be checked for built up grease and if there are any issues on the propane system for gas delivery.

He notes that rubber hoses can be loose, and it’s important to check all loose ends before firing up your BBQ.

Baikie adds you don’t want your BBQ to be too close to combustibles, under overhangs, or close to buildings.
