A Powell River doctor and nurse have been found negligent after a baby was born with a brain injury.
The pregnant mother had presented to hospital with neck pain.
The BC Supreme Court found that both the doctor and nurse failed to take an adequate and accurate medical history at the time.
Days later, the mother had an eclamptic seizure and was air-lifted to Vancouver for an emergency c-section. The judge ruled that if a proper medical history had been taken, it would most likely have led to a diagnosis of pre-eclampsia and prevented the child’s brain injury.
