In conjunction to Bike to Work Week this week, police are reminding motorist and cyclist to be safe.
Constable Harrison Mohr with the Sunshine Coast RCMP says it’s important to maintain a safe relationship between cyclists and motorists. He says cyclists riding on roadways have a lot of the same responsibilities as motorists. Some of these responsibilities include obeying all traffic signals, and using hand signals when turning or stopping.
Drivers who don’t have enough room safely pass a cyclist should slow down and wait until it is safe to pass. Mohr says the best way maintain a safe relationship between a motorist and a cyclist is to stay predictable and to signal in advance so others have time to safely adapt.
He adds that cyclists who are caught without a helmet will face a $29 fine.
