Today marks National Aboriginal Day. The day is celebrated with events across the country.
Russell Brewer with the Powell River Metis Society says there will be activities set up at Willingdon Beach. Some of these include cultural workshops, with about 20 stations set up at the site.
He notes there will also be a BBQ from 5 until 7:00 PM, as well as a celebration honoring Sliammon Elder Elsie Paul.
This year is also significant, as it marks the 20th annual National Aboriginal Day in Canada.
