16 impaired drivers caught by RCMP during traffic sting

Over a dozen drivers were taken off of Powell River roads by police over a three-day period.

Powell River RCMP, working with members of the BC Highway Patrol from Sept. 29 to Oct. 1, removed 16 impaired drivers from the road.

The team included a search dog trained in drug detection, leading to seizures of fentanyl, cocaine and cannabis along with cash and a vehicle, according to officers.

They say two vehicles were also taken off the road with orders to be inspected for safety violations.

RCMP say 50 violation tickets were issued and there’s an investigation into a stunting infraction.

Officers say more operations can be expected in the future, with these drivers posing a significant risk to public safety.
