Residents in electoral areas ‘A’, ‘B’ and ‘C’ will be able to get free bus travel on Saturday.
The service will be there to help reduce barriers and help residents make their vote, according to the qathet Regional District.
Voting for the electoral areas will be done at the following locations between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m.
Area A:
- Northside Community Recreation Centre at 9656 Larson Rd.
- Northside No. 1 Fire Hall at 8540 Plummer Creek Rd.
Area B:
- Therapeutic Riding Association Club House at 4356 Myrtle Ave.
Area C:
- Texada Seniors Centre: Old Gillies Bay School at 5079 Gillies Bay Rd.
- Texada Elementary School at 2007 Waterman Ave.
The district says the voting centres are near or on conventional bus routes, and will not be much of a cost to it.
“The board has approved free transit on general voting day to encourage and increase voter turnout by reducing expenses to get to the polls,” said operational services manager Patrick Devereaux.
“The projected revenue loss for offering free service for general voting day is minimal at $31.25, and will be covered by the qathet Regional District.”
The district does not have a bus service for electoral area E, Lasqueti Island.
