Powell River Hospital District adopts budget and new financial plan

Healthcare services in Powell River will receive upgrades and renovations through the adoption of the 2023 budget and new financial plan.

Through the federal budget, $1.6 million in new and previously approved grant funds will go towards facility upgrades, renovations, and the purchase of major clinical equipment for the qathet Regional District.

The qathet regional hospital will see upgrades for the Pharmacy IV Room, Chiller 1 and 2 replacement, roof replacement phases, mechanical room boiler upgrades, direct digital control upgrades, and a generator paralleling gear upgrade.

The qathet Evergreen extended care unit will get building envelope repairs, and phase 2 of roofing.

Powell River Regional Hospital District board chair George Doubt says funding through their board is cost-shared with the province.

“Through collaboration and coordination with local groups, Vancouver Coastal Health and the Province of BC, we continue to work together to provide the best local health care we can,” says Doubt.

Along with these initiatives, the ongoing paydown of the debt for the Willingdon Creek Village Complex Care Facility is also supported by this year’s budget.
