Powell River doc wins lifetime achievement award

A local doctor has been honoured with a lifetime achievement award for his work in rural medicine.

Dr. David May received the Award of Excellence in Rural Medicine Friday from the Rural Coordination Centre of BC. The Centre recognizes doctors in smaller and remote communities each year who have developed innovative and collaborative solutions to local healthcare issues. May was awarded for his work as an advocate for health equity, and for constantly amplifying the rural voice, including publishing articles in the British Columbia Medical Journal.

May practiced obstetrics for 10 years, emergency for 15 years, and anesthesia for around 30 years. He served on the boards of the qathet Division of Family Practice and Powell River Hospice Society.
