Work still needs to be done for Metis to be recognized across the country

The head of the Powell River Metis Association says there’s still work to do to ensure Metis are recognized across the country.

Louis Riel Day was marked across the province on Wednesday.

Russell Brewer says the Metis Nation Relationship Accord is an important step by the province to work with Metis. He notes that the accord sets out objectives to address health, housing, education, and economic opportunities.

Brewer says it’s important to remember Louis Riel for his work not just for the Metis, but for all Canadians.
