Powell River City Council has received presentations on what the city can do to help protect species at risk at the local level.
Representatives from the South Coast Conservation Program and the Canadian Wildlife Service from Environment Canada appeared before council at its meeting last week.
Mayor Dave Formosa says it was good for council to hear what they can do at the local level to ensure the federal rules are followed when it comes to species at risk.
Formosa notes that there are also groups in town that are well in-tuned to these issues to help bring awareness and flag potential issues as development permits come forward.
