We’re reaching the half-way point of the BC election campaign.
Voters go to the polls two weeks from Tuesday to choose who will represent them in Victoria. Locally, four candidates will be on the ballot May 9th. The MyPowellRiverNow.com News team reached out to each candidate for a check in on how things are going so far.
Incumbent Nicolas Simons with the BC NDP notes he’s been hearing a lot of same concerns on the campaign trail that he’s been hearing for the last number of years.
“Those are the ferries, [and] housing affordability and generally life affordability. I think people are concerned about the fact that the cost of almost everything has gone up really quickly,” he says.
BC Liberal Candidate Mathew Wilson says he’s been hearing from a lot of residents who are concerned about the economy. “The overarching issue here is jobs…making sure people can work in coastal communities…and [work] close to home”, he says.
Green Party Candidate Kim Darwin explains that her party is presenting a platform that benefit the economy and the environment. “It’s really designed with the best interest of people in mind. There’s no entanglement with lobbyists or big business…it’s designed to increase the well-being of British Columbians, and not just for a four-year election cycle but for generations to come,” she says.
Reuben Richards will also be on the ballot May 9th, representing the BC Cascadia Party.
The candidates will be in Powell River Monday evening, April 24th, for an all-candidates forum at the Evergreen Theatre.
