City crews begin water main flushing

City of Powell River crews have begun water main flushing.

The flushing removes mineral deposits or build up in the lines. Superintendent of Public Works, Murray Steer, says there will be limited impact to residents.

“Things that they might experience is some dirty water in their systems, [which is] an opportunity to flush it out, allow their water to run and it should come clear shortly after,” he says.

He adds that if anyone experiences any major problems to contact the Public Works department.

The city is planning to make the water main flushing an annual part of the city’s maintenance of its infrastructure. The program is set to run until early June.
