Simons re-elected as MLA for Powell River-Sunshine Coast

The votes have been counted, and Powell River-Sunshine Coast will see a familiar face representing the riding in Victoria.

Nicholas Simons has been re-elected as MLA in the 2017 provincial election.

Simons came away with a resounding 50.75% of the votes (11,846). 98 ballot boxes were reported on in the riding.

BC Liberal Mathew Wilson followed with 5,717 votes (24.49%), while BC Green Party’s Kim Darwin had 5,629 votes in her favour (24.11%).

BC Cascadia Party candidate Reuben Richards came away with 0.65% at 152 votes.

Simons says this election campaign was more difficult in comparison to the previous three campaigns he was a part of.

“I think our platform really resonated well with people,” he says.

He adds that, “[The other campaigns] were both well-funded and they’ve been active for quite a number of months so it did seem quite different in a way but we had a good strong team and I’m proud of the work we did.”

Simons says it’s “an honour” to be re-elected to represent the riding of Powell River-Sunshine Coast.
