MP John Weston on Ottawa shootings

MPs are back at work in the Commons today in the aftermath of yesterday’s shooting in the capital.

Sergeant of Arms Kevin Vickers struggled to hold back tears as he took his usual place in the WEBSITEHouse to a standing ovation.

Vickers is being hailed as a hero for killing suspected gunman, 32-year-old Michael Zehaf-Bibeau who burst into the Parliament Buildings after 24 year old corporal Nathan Cirillo was gunned down while standing guard at the National War memorial.

West Vancouver Sunshine Coast’s John Weston was one of the many MPs held for hours under lockdown yesterday.

Vickers issued a statement today… praising his security team saying they demonstrated professionalism and courage during extraordinary circumstances.

In his speech to open the session, Prime Minister Stephen Harper once again called the attack terrorism, and pledged action.

Harper also said there is need for new rules to allow police and intelligence agencies to better track suspected terrorists.
