Discussing the Future of the Old Golf Club Lands

People in Powell River have the chance to share their thoughts on the future of the old golf club lands.

The 80-acre site is located between Second Beach and Laurel Street. An open meeting is taking place this weekend, and spokesperson Doctor Ron Woznow says there are many options for the future of the property.

“On one end of it, you could have a section which would be accommodating tourists and the focus could be on really maximizing the opportunity to develop the tourist industry. On the other side, there may be, you know, a Sino Bright School [an International school], which is bringing students from abroad and it creates jobs.”

Woznow says if they can get everyone to share their thoughts, then they will be able to come up with the best ideas and create a healthy future for the lands. Powell River-Sunshine Coast MLA Nic Simons will be on hand for the meeting, along with Powell River Councillors Rob Southcott and Maggie Hathaway.

The meeting goes on Sunday at 1:15 PM at the new Powell River Library and is open to the public.
