The Whale Heritage Site auditing process was a great learning experience for everyone.
Auditor Natalie Barefoot says they met with a wide range of stakeholders on North Vancouver Island.
Barefoot says North Vancouver Island will be the first official whale heritage site if the reports get approved.
Fellow auditor Stephanie Stefanski says having this area as the first heritage site is incredible because it’s not an overall commercialized destination, nor is it a really tiny remote area that no one has ever heard of.
Vancouver Island North is in the candidacy status. The next step is to compile the report from the remote and onsite audit and present them to an independent review panel.
