Turn Down the Heat and Cut Down Your Bill

It’s Turn Down the Heat Week in British Columbia.

FortisBC spokesperson Nicole Bogdanovic says  the Business Improvement Areas of BC annual initiative is about raising awareness on energy conservation. She recommends going around your home and sealing up any cracks or gaps to save money on your heating bill.

“You know, those windows that could be getting condensation over the Winter-time. If you can see sunlight through your door crack, [then] you’re losing heat,” she says.

Bogdanovic notes that “more than 50 percent of energy costs are for heating your home so every gap and crack is losing money for you.”

Bogdanovic says you should also make sure your furnace and programmable thermostat are both working properly.

She says during the week, many businesses are serving as drop-off spots to give out sweaters to people in need.

Turn Down the Heat Week runs through Friday, November 10th. You can find out more about the initiative at www.bia.bc.ca.
