Vandals attempt to set playground equipment on fire at local school

POWELL RIVER, BC – The Powell River RCMP is looking into a case of vandalism at École Côte Du Soleil on Michigan Avenue.

The incident was reported on April 16, 2018. The police report states that an unknown suspect, or suspects, spray-painted graffiti on the playground equipment.

It was also revealed that someone attempted to set the playground equipment on fire, which caused considerable damage.

According to the RCMP, a considerable amount of garbage was found behind the school. Items included empty beer cans and smashed glass bottles. This created a safety hazard for the students of the school.

The Powell River RCMP is encouraging residents to report any suspicious activity, including when groups of people or a suspicious individual is spotted near a school area at night. The RCMP release states that these types of poor behaviour can often cost a large amount of clean-up and considerable expenses for schools, not to mention creating safety hazards for children who use playgrounds outside of school hours.

Anyone with further details about this recent incident is asked to call the local RCMP at (604) 485-6255 or CrimeStoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
