BC Government working with SPCA

The provincial government wants to crack down on people who leave their pets in hot cars.

The province is planning to work SPCA, and other organizations to make it easier to rescue animals, and punish the people who put them at risk.

Geoff Urton is a spokesperson with the BC SPCA.

He says awareness of the issue is growing, and with it, the number of calls they’re receiving about pets in hot cars. They’ve had 1200 this year alone.

Urton says they’re meeting with provincial reps on Friday to start talking about solutions.

Nanaimo recently introduced a bylaw so owners can be fined for leaving their pet in a hot vehicle.
