Local singer’s promotional t-shirts stolen

POWELL RIVER, B.C. – It’s been a busy time for Gitta May Nielsen.

The Powell River resident has cracked the top ten in season six of the Canadian singing competition show, The Shot.

Unfortunately, according to a Facebook post, misfortune has fallen on her.

In a post in the group Powell River Swappin’ and Talkin’, Sherri Wiebe stated that Gitta called her Thursday, to inform her that t-shirts Wiebe made for the singer were stolen out of her vehicle.

Wiebe said the shirts disappeared at Julie’s Airport Market.

“These were shirts she (Gitta) was delivering to people that had already paid for them,” Wiebe wrote.

She noted that there were four shirts in a Blue Steel Imaging canvas tote. There have been no further updates as of this publication.

EXCITEMENT FOR THE FAMILY

Even with the apparent theft, there is still plenty of excitement in the air, according to Gitta’s sister Sonya.

“It’s more exciting to know that we are a part of this journey for her, because it’s something that’s been so ongoing and she’s been so enthusiastic about it. She’s put everything that she has into this,” Sonya said, speaking about Gitta.

“We’re really, really excited for her.”

Sonya said Gitta has been singing from a young age. The first competition she ever won voice-wise was a speech contest at around four or five years old.

“Her and I went on to win an air guitar competition when she was seven that we were pretty proud of, too,” she said.

“She’s always been interested in music.”

Going into the top ten, Sonya said her sister is dialed right in and is prepared to win.

“She came home (after making the top ten) and it was like game on the mind. She knows exactly what she wants and she knows what she can do, and she knows that she can do it.”

Sonya is imploring everyone in Powell River to vote frequently, and vote every day if possible.

“She’s even had the people running the show say ‘holy smokes, you’ve got the biggest running fan-base of anybody that we’ve got’,” Sonya noted.

“The only reason is because she said I’m going to show you what a little town like Powell River is all about.”

Gitta will perform on the show’s grand finale on September 29th in Kitchener, Ontario. Voting can be done via The Shot’s website.
