POWELL RIVER, B.C. – Gitta May Nielsen’s had quite the month.
The Powell River resident recently won the People’s Choice Award in the Canadian singing show, The Shot, competing in the grand finale last weekend in Kitchener, Ontario.
She’s since returned home, and said it’s been a life-changing month.
“I’m just happy to be home, and I can’t believe the support from Powell River. It’s been absolutely outstanding, we did good,” she told MyPowellRiverNow.com.
“It’s been quite a sight (the support). It started quite small and there was a following, and it just kind of exploded over the last few days and leading up to the finale. It was something else. We’ve gone to like 50 views to almost 5,000 in just a matter of weeks.”
Gitta said through The Shot, she’s won a one-year artist development program.
“That means I’ll be going and recording a single at Northwood Music in Toronto. They will accompany that with a music video as well,” she explained.
“They’re just going to help me do whatever I can to advance further in this business. So Gitta May Nielsen is going to be a brand, and we’re gonna work on some original music and put that out as soon as possible, and just continue working in the industry. Who know, The Shot might even come to the West Coast, we never know, there could be some good surprises in the future.”
