POWELL RIVER, B.C- Power is back on in Powell River.
Earlier today, BC Hydro switched off the power across the city, as well as Cortes Island and Texada Island.
The emergency outage was needed in order to allow the power authourity to fix up transmission infrastructure that had been damaged in recent heavy weather.
Around 12809 people lost their power due to the move, and the outage ran from roughly 9:30 a.m. to the late afternoon.
BC Hydro had meant to get the work finished before the next storm system moved into the area, which might have caused transmission infrastructure to fail.
As of this publication, the outages are no longer affecting the area.
