Magnitude 6.7 earthquake rattles off the coast of Port Hardy

A magnitude 6.7 earthquake has struck roughly 91 km’s off the southern coast of Port Hardy, and while there are reports of some cans falling off shelves in Mount Waddington grocery stores, there is no major damage or injuries reported.

Likewise, there has been no tsunami warning issued in the region.

Port Hardy Mayor Bev Parnham says they definitely felt this one.

Here in the Comox Valley, several reports of minor shaking throughout the region.

A 6.3 magnitude quake was recorded in the Port Hardy region in November of 2012, while a 7.7 magnitude earthquake in the nearby Haida Gwaii region was reported in October of that same year.
