Be safe in the back country

The Province and Avalanche Canada are launching an awareness campaign over the dangers of spring avalanches.

Minister of State for Emergency Preparedness, Naomi Yamamoto says as the spring weather arrives it’s easy to forget the dangers of things like avalanches.

Yamamoto notes that this year alone, 13 people have been killed in avalanches.

Yamamoto says they want to encourage people to enjoy the outdoors, but to take precautions to ensure a safe return home.

Grant Helgeson with Avalanche Canada echoes Yamamoto, saying you need to be prepared before you head out into the back country.
