A historic day for the Tla’amin First Nation.
At 12:01 a-m, the Final Agreement came into effect.
The first sitting of the Tla’amin Legislative Assembly took place just after midnight and the assembly passed a comprehensive suite of laws to provide the basis for self-government authority.
Chief Negotiator Roy Francis says it’s an emotional and exciting time.
Elder Elsie Paul says it’s part of building a new relationship between Tla’amin and its neighbours.
