Funds collected by the Red Cross are beginning to be distributed to the residents of Fort McMurray.
Emergency funding from the Province of Alberta is also being distributed.
Fort McMurray residents Chris and Stacey Steedman lost their home in the fire and went to Vancouver Island to stay with family.
Stacey says they are thankful for the support from islanders and the province of British Columbia.
Emergency Program Coordinator Howie Siemens says recovery is the longest part of any major disaster.
Evacuees of the fire have been told that it is still not safe to return, as the risk of flare ups is still too high.
