A hotel tax is being brought in on the Sunshine Coast. Sunshine Coast Tourism is implementing a 2-percent tax. The tax dollars will be collected through overnight stays at hotels.
Celia Robbins, a member of the Board of Directors for Sunshine Coast, says the tax dollars collected all come back to the region and will be put towards marketing and promotions of Powell River and the Sunshine Coast.
Robbins notes this kind of tax has been implemented in other coastal communities and has proved to be very successful.
