Are you FireSmart?
qathet Regional is looking for champions to support their FireSmart program in the community, as it returns for 2023.
The program is running for its seventh consecutive year, with the purpose of identifying potential wildfire risks while providing advice and solutions for residents.
The district says that the program helped over 300 property owners and provided over $25,000 in rebates over the last three years.
qRD’s Manager of Emergency Services, Ryan Thoms says that last year saw a lot of success for the program.
“We met with residents interested in making FireSmart improvements to their properties and we were able to assist them in doing that,” says Thoms.
Those who do become champions of the program will not only receive free wildfire hazard training but are also potentially eligible to get funding for events, including a FireSmart debris chipper day.
