Powell River man facing charges of hitting women with vehicle

Powell River RCMP say a 23-year-old man is facing charges after reportedly hitting two women with a vehicle.

Officers say it happened Tuesday evening at around 7:40. They add it was reported that he fled the area afterward.

After an investigation and the help of witnesses, police say they were able to identify and arrest the man. He was taken to the detachment and did a breathalyser test, which officers say he failed.

The vehicle was seized, and the man was issued a driving prohibition. Police say he is facing charges for not staying at the scene, dangerous operation of a vehicle, criminal negligence causing bodily harm, impaired driving and assault with a weapon.

The two women were taken to hospital, and one was taken to Vancouver with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

The man is set to appear in court in July.
