Residents can learn about public services from Powell River open house

You will have a chance to interact with public service workers in Powell River in an upcoming open house.

It is part of national public works week, and it will have demonstrations from workers at water and sewer services, roads, garbage, recycling, buildings, and transit.

Manager of Operational Services Rod Fraser, says this open house allows them to spread awareness of the services the city provides to the community.

“It’s also a way for us to give back to the community, hopefully by showing folks, including kids around equipment, letting them explore the different types of equipment that we use,” says Fraser.

“Letting them learn about the infrastructure that we don’t see every day, how water is delivered to their home, explore a city bus, as some kids have never got the chance to be on a bus.”

This year marks the fourth time this open house has been held, with it open to residents of all ages, according to the city.

The event is scheduled for next Wednesday on Duncan Street from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., and from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.
